Breast augmentation is one of the most wanted treatments in the UK and there are about 10 000 surgeries per year. Although it is considered to be relatively minor procedure and being technically rather simple, this operation requires surgeons with outstanding expertise and the sense of shaping and proportions.

Silicone implants are soft and when touched or pressed against, breasts feel very natural. It is important to know that you can easily breast feed your babies with implants. After the surgery, breasts are available for medical examinations because the implants are placed under the pectoral muscle or above the muscle, i.e. directly under the lactation gland.

After the surgery you will receive a certificate for the implant.

Are breast implants suitable for me?

All patients older than 18 years can undergo breast augmentation surgery. Indications for breast augmentation include: underdeveloped and small breasts, breast asymmetries, innate breast anomalies and reconstructive breast surgery.

What do I need to do before the surgery?

Preoperative treatment will be conducted at the Cosmetic Surgery Clinic Dr Toncic upon your arrival to Croatia. In case you want to contact dr Rajko or dr Dinko Toncic beforehand, we can arrange a telephone or online conference. During your first visit at the Clinic the doctor will explain to you all the details of the treatment.

Prior to the breast augmentation surgery, you will go through a routine preoperative analysis which includes internal medicine specialist examination with ECG and blood test analysis. The tests can be done a day before the surgery or on the day of the surgery if previously agreed with the doctor.

You will meet with surgeons for the final preoperative consultations and medical examination. With the aim of achieving the best result possible, during the final preoperative examination, the surgeon makes a detailed and precise drawing on the patient’s breast. This is the point where Dr Toncic’s artistic experience and meticulousness are best shown. The drawing itself is an important orientation factor for the surgeon during the surgery, and as such it represents quite a big step on the way to the final success of the operation.

It is necessary to stop taking any nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications that contain acetylsalicylic acid like Aspirin, Andol or Acisal before any surgical intervention, and especially before breast augmentation surgery. This is an important factor in preparing the patient for surgery, because in this way we prevent possible bleeding and hematoma (blood bruises) during and after surgery, which significantly improves and speeds up the recovery process and also improves the result of the surgery.

What happens during and after surgery?

This operation is done under general anaesthesia given by a top anaesthesiologist. You will be asleep during the operation and the whole procedure is painless.

Surgical incision is made in the armpit, around the nipple or below the breast. Considering these locations, the scar is not visible after the operation. You will be able to see the results of the surgery immediately which is another reason the patients are very pleased with this surgery.

Altogether, you will stay in the clinic for 12-24 hours. It takes about an hour for preoperative preparations, around an hour and a half for the operation itself and after that you will stay at the clinic to rests.

Once discharged from the clinic, you will be taken to your exclusive apartment accompanied by a nurse.

How long is the recovery?

Postoperative recovery

after breast augmentation is individual, usually lasting about 10 days. The stitches are removed eight days after the surgery, and after two weeks you will be able to resume with your personal and professional activities. However it is recommended to avoid hard physical activities and lifting heavy objects for 30 days after the operation.

It is recommended you stay in Zagreb for 8 days after the breast augmentation surgery in order for the doctor to remove stitches and monitor the early postoperative period. For your own safety and in order to ensure a successful recovery and postoperative monitoring, your doctor will insist on your stay in Zagreb after the surgery.

The nurse will check your status after the surgery and ensure you take your medicine if necessary. She will also prepare appropriate meals for you. The nurse will be close to you during the whole time; in the room next door or the apartment next to yours.

This way nothing is left to chance. Your recovery is tracked entirely from the start to the finish which has major impact on your health and good surgical outcome. In order to have the least noticeable scar possible, it would be best to avoid sun exposure for six to twelve months after the operation.
