Excessive skin in the upper arm area can’t be solved with working out or diverse cosmetic treatments, and in most cases not even with liposuction, which is used for the removal of fat tissue deposits.

A procedure which effectively removes the excessive skin and fat tissue from the upper arms is called brachioplasty.

EXCESSIVE SKIN AFTER SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT LOSS

Today, when we are exposed to uncritical and irregular consumption of low- quality food of all kind, it is hard to satisfy the beauty ideals put onto us by the media. Even if you do win the battle with obesity, some permanent flaws remain. Mostly it is excessive skin left on different parts of the body, starting with the face and chin, all the way to the thighs and stomach. This problem can be very visible in the upper arm area, where the biggest amount of excessive skin and even fat tissue is regularly left over and can significantly damage the appearance of the person.

EXCESSIVE SKIN ON PATIENTS WITH NORMAL BODY WEIGHT

In addition, we have to mention people with normal body weight who have the same problem, which can occur over the years, conditioned by genetics. The problem doesn’t have to be significant in the amount of excessive skin, but it definitely makes a generally sound figure worse.

HEALTH PROBLEMS

Excessive skin and fat tissue in the upper arm area can also provoke different health problems and people with this problem complain especially about irritative dermatitis (inflammation of the skin) in the upper arm and arm pit area.

BRACHIOPLASTY – PROCEDURE

Brachioplasty is a surgical procedure with which we remove the excessive skin from the upper arm area that represents a significant aesthetic, and often a health problem as well, for the person in question. It is a method that helps us tighten the skin on the upper arms.
We measure and mark the orientation points with a precise drawing before the procedure, so we can remove the optimal amount of excessive skin.

We position the scar left from the operation in the internal area of the upper arms, so that it’s as less visible as possible and well hidden after the recovery period, and the wound is precisely stitched with the top quality and finest suchers, according to the principals of aesthetic surgery.
After 6 months to a year most of the scarring almost entirely fades away.
From the technical aspect, when in the hands of an experienced and skilled aesthetic surgeon, this procedure does not represent a big problem and can be done rather quickly and with a high rate of success.

We insist on a quality choice and good preparation of patients for this kind of procedure to reduce the risk of this operation and bring the postoperative recovery to a minimum as well as to assure that the safety of the patent is on the highest level.

With these conditions brachioplasty is a very efficient procedure which results in very high patient satisfaction.

Although we remove a certain amount of fat tissue together with the excessive skin with this procedure, patients suitable for this procedure would have to have normal or moderate body weight, whether they are people who went through significant weight loss or people who genetically have excessive skin on the upper arm area.

It is also very important that the postoperative lab results and medical examinations are in order, especially the examinations with an internal specialist, ECG, blood pressure, blood test and blood coagulation.

Dr Toncic has successfully practiced this surgical procedure with his team for over 15 years and can speak from his experience over many years that this is a highly efficient body shaping method. We have a very high percentage of satisfied patients after this procedure in our Clinic thanks to everything listed above.

PREPARATION FOR SURGERY

Although this operation is a routine procedure for Dr Toncic’s experienced surgical team, a professional approach demands of us to dedicate special attention to the preoperative preparation of the patient.

Prior to the brachioplasty, the patient goes through a routine preoperative analysis, which comprises of the internal specialist examination with ECG, a blood test and the blood coagulation value analysis, consultation and a thorough examination in our clinic.

We have another talk with the patient and a final preoperative consultation and examination prior to the operative procedure.

To reduce the risk of possible complications to a minimum, we don’t recommend brachioplasty to older patients, diabetics, patients who have high blood pressure or heart conditions. It is advisable that the patient is of a younger or middle age and in good medical condition.

For smokers, it is imperative they make sure they stop smoking at least two weeks before, and two weeks after the surgery. That is one of the factors that has a major influence on the result of the surgery and the healing process.

Before any surgical procedure, especially before brachioplasty, patients need to stop with the usage of pain killers and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, containing acetylsalicylic acid like Aspirin, Andol or Acisal, in case they usually take these. This is a very important factor in a patient’s preparation for surgical procedure, as this way we prevent possible bleeding and hematomas during and after the procedure. Following this instruction makes the recovery quicker and more successful, and the result of the operation is improved.

RECOVERY

The final result of the brachioplasty depends on the course of the operation, the experience of the surgeon and his team, precise and enhanced techniques, but to a significant extent, it also depends on conscientious and detailed postoperative monitoring and control.

To be sure of the success of the operation and wellbeing of the patient, Dr Toncic and his team insist on regular check ups and everyday contact with the patient. For our patients’ safety, successful recovery and postoperative monitoring, we recommend optimal length of stay in Zagreb. This way, we leave nothing to chance. We monitor our patient’s recovery completely, which is crucial for our patient’s health and the result of the operation.

Postoperative recovery after brachioplasty is individual, usually lasting around 14 days after the operation. The stitches are removed 14 days after the surgery, and our patients can resume their personal and professional activities, having in mind, though, to avoid harder physical activities for 30 days after the operation.

Immediately after brachioplasty, the patient puts on special compressive, elastic garments on the arms. The elastic garment is a big part of the postoperative recovery, because it makes the skin stick to the tissue as close as possible, and the effect of the operation is thus enhanced. The elastic garments are to be worn for 6 to 8 weeks after the surgery. We provide the patients with specific garment, according to the type and size, prior to the surgery.
